CAPE LODGE - YALLINGUP, WHY I LOVE THIS SPONTANEOUS WEDDING PHOTO
I love a wedding photograph like this one that shows emotion. It is refreshing and invigorating to observe someone that is happy to show their feelings.
My wedding photography celebrates emotion and personality.
There are many words for what I do, documentary wedding photographer, wedding photojournalist, natural wedding photographer, storytelling wedding photographer and so on.
To break it down simply, I attend every wedding with a real desire to photograph as many genuine spontaneous moments as I can. To then piece them together so they reflect how amazing your day was, the laughter, excitement, emotion. It’s all relevant.
I have photographed in this manner for over ten years now and I have practised and practised this style to perfect my timing and anticipation of moments of spontaneity.
This photograph was taken during Darcy and Lucy’s wedding ceremony at Cape Lodge in Yallingup. The brides Mum and Dad had flown over for her wedding from England. So I knew it was important to get some memorable shots of them.
Having an understanding of who has the potential to show emotion is an important skill to have. I had my eye on Mum big time.
When the emotions have charged up through the morning it only takes the simplest thing to trigger a release. A joke by the celebrant or perhaps a funny mistake in reciting the vows.
Spontaneous moments like this are gone in a split second. In my first ten years of photographing weddings I missed literally hundreds of moments like this. By the time I had seen it everything had changed and the moment lost.
Now days I get hundreds of photographs like this at every wedding.
I feel they are so valuable for families to have, to have the opportunity to enjoy again and again. A bride and groom will not remember or have even seen a lot of the moments that happen at their wedding day. So this is how they get to experience it.
For me that makes my job amazing.
