Best ways to prepare for your Newborn Baby Photography shoot

A more natural and spontaneous look at Newborn Baby Photography

It was a really great moment to receive a call from Simon and find out that he was now a proud father. We had photographed Simon & Joselyn’s wedding and I had really enjoyed their photographs, as people they are a lot of  fun and their were plenty of spontaneous photographs that Sebastian had captured for them.

To photograph them with their baby Jackson at our studio in Fremantle was going to so cool. Simon and Joselyn loved our candid and natural approach to baby photography and we talked about how we would approach the shoot. The brief was to document them as they are, if Jackson cries just go with it and capture that because that is what babies do, that’s real life. They noticed and were delighted that I did not have photographs of babies snuggled in knitted props in my gallery and even more relieved to see that I had none hidden in the studio when they arrived.

The shoot was fantastic and I loved every minute, there was a lot of laughing and plenty of crying too. My favourite photograph has to be the family shot with Simon and Joselyn mimicking Jackson’s crying. Just brilliant and Simon’s idea.

I think this is a refreshing take on portrait photography, there is certainly more to life than smiling and looking at the camera. For me, portrait photography is about revealing who people really are, their unique personalities and what they love about their partners and children.

Kids photography

Okay Italy are not winning the world cup this time but don’t worry check out the kick on this little fella. Mathew popped over to the studio with Mum and Dad who had come prepared with some cool outfits. Once the Italy strip was on Mathew stole the show with some power shots that almost took my head off! Good job I had bought a soft soccer ball from a Swedish furniture shop earlier this year. Lets hope that Australia sign him up for future world cups before the news filters back to Italy.

I keep saying that Kids portrait photography is where it is at!

Kids photography

Kids are the best! They are and it’s as simple as that. The thing I love most about photographing younger children at the studio is the varying levels of transformation that take place. First we have the “shy stage” where the kids arraive at the studio and they are doing all sorts of funny things to avoid leaving the comfort of Mum and Dad. Thing is that I have already spoken to Mum on the phone and she has arrived with a truck load of cool stuff to play with and that’s what we do., play! Now we enter into the “bewilderment stage”.  We all get down on the kids level and have a play with some toys and during the fun I start seeing the looks, the looks that say, “this guys alright, he only looks a bit funny but he’s actually alright”. I have not dared to get a camera out yet because I am just having fun and interacting. The next stage is my favourite and it is the best feeling because I have been accepted and it is the “revealing stage”. Yep that’s when I have won them over and I am treated to amazing tricks, dancing and elaborate stories. This is when I pick up my camera and I photograph all the cool stuff that they can do.

If you know anyone that has some cool and groovy kids tell them to pop in for a fun kids portrait session, I love them!

Eternity Photography is now fundraising for Variety the children’s charity

I have been looking for a great way of giving something back and fundraising for a charity that helps children seems to fit very nicely. I consider myself to be extremely lucky because I have three healthy kids who amaze and entertain me, my beautiful wife Shannon (who is studying to be a master brewer) and I do what I love for a living. I love portrait photography because it is so varied, whether it is kids portraits, baby portraits, couples portraits or family portraits it is all fun and I am passionate about creating something even better than the last shoot.

I have teamed up with Variety the children’s charity and I will be donating part proceeds to Variety. I am also rewarding anyone who donates $50 to Variety with $250 of product and services from Eternity Photography. This will provide you with a portrait session in the studio or on location and one 8×12 inch portrait print and some remaining credit. Part proceeds will also be donated from any further purchases that you choose to make.

It is so easy to do, simply fill out a portrait enquiry form on the website and mention the $50 Variety donation. We will give you a call and arrange everything for you. This would be great for all types of Portrait photography, maternity portraits, baby portraits, kids portraits, family portraits, couples portraits, individual portraits and nude portraits.

I will let you know more on some really exciting news soon about an exhibition that I will be having in Perth. I have begun work on the images which I am enjoying. The exhibition will be in support of Variety the children’s charity.

Baby portraits are the best fun!

A baby portrait session is lots of fun. Everyone understands that the baby is the boss and myself and the parents work feverishly to create some really timeless photographs. I have every angle covered for whatever may happen and from then on in it is about timing, patience and having some ideas up my sleeve for the photographs I want to create. I love nothing more than the feeling when it has all come together and any further shots taken are just icing on the cake.

This session was particularly special because I had photographed Geoff and Katrina’s wedding (not that long ago). So to catch up with them again and meet their little baby was a really great moment. They are natural loving parents and little Molly was an absolute joy to photograph, she was more than happy to oblige me some great smiles and gestures that made the experience lots of fun.

I have a funny feeling that she will get me working harder when she is two.

I find that when people are enjoying the shoot they will relax and reveal their true character and the photographs are more natural and real.
