WHY I LOVE THIS PIC - JOHN RICE - ETERNITY PHOTOGRAPHY

I love the magical connection Andrew & Katie show in this photograph.

After photographing the bridal party I took Andrew & Katie off for a little stroll around the amazing Aravina Estate

An opportunity to get some really lovely intimate photos of them hanging out together.

Positioning the sun behind them I got a really nice soft feel to the image and simply asked them to "get together".

I often start with little snippets of direction to keep everything slowing and more spontaneous. If required I can add to that to help people.

Andrew & Katie didn't need any extra direction at all, they simply enjoyed an opportunity to be together while I snapped away in the background.

BASILDENE MANOR - MARGARET RIVER, WHY I LOVE THIS PHOTO

WHY I LOVE THIS PIC - JOHN RICE - ETERNITY PHOTOGRAPHY

I love the fact that this was photographed in the early afternoon when the sun is not wanting to play ball and the light is harsh.

Usually wedding ceremonies in Margaret River are around 4pm but this one at Basildene Manor was earlier.

By having a look around the gardens I had worked out where I could use the lighting conditions to our advantage and get some interesting photographs.

As the sun was overhead I could see that this tree was getting some really nice back lighting on the leaves. This creates a really lovely effect where the greens of the leaves glow and sparkle.

Some very easy simple direction had the bride and groom in position, relaxed and having fun.

I photographed some closer in and this one which I love shows all the branches curving through the canopy.

Sometimes you are given a little gift, a split second reaction that shows all the emotion and excitement felt.

As Damian & Michelle are walking out of the church, Damian pauses to kiss his beautiful bride on the cheek.

This is her reaction.

I love the expression on her face. After feeling a few nerves during the ceremony it looks like Michelle is ready to let her hair down and enjoy her day.

WEDDING SHOES

WHY I LOVE THIS PIC - JOHN RICE - ETERNITY PHOTOGRAPHY

Jimmy Choo shoes have that extra bit of style that needs a photo to match.

The dramatic curves leading up to the heel was something I wanted to emphasise in this photo.

By moving the other shoe into the distance I was able to focus on that and get the whole shoe in shot.

I love the out of focus curved shapes in the foreground that frame it so well.

Having those gorgeous soft colours of the trees gives the photo a really nice painterly feel.

CAVERSHAM HOUSE - SWAN VALLEY, WHY I LOVE THIS PHOTO

Natural wedding photography

WHY I LOVE THIS PIC - JOHN RICE - ETERNITY PHOTOGRAPHY

This one is an oldie but a goodie. Captured at Caversham House in the Swan Valley this photo inspired me and changed my style forever.

The reaction to this photograph was insane. Everyone loved it, talked about and booked me because of it.

This taught me that people really value photographs that tell stories, they love an image that is spontaneous and not faked.

I changed my approach to weddings to photograph more and more moments like this.

Over ten years I practised and practised being very sneaky and fast at capturing emotion in photos.

Now I can anticipate spontaneous moments before they even happen.

MARGARET RIVER'S SECRET GARDEN - MARGARET RIVER, WHY I LOVE THIS PHOTO

WHY I LOVE THIS PIC - JOHN RICE - ETERNITY PHOTOGRAPHY

This photograph was taken as the bridal party walked to another location during the bridal shoot.

I look for little moments like this throughout the day, when the guard is down and people are not expecting to be photographed.

It leads to wonderful natural and genuine expressions.

In this photo, Cleo aka "the bride" takes a moment to reflect and bask in the beautiful sunshine and happy vibes as she walks through the amazing gardens.
