Kids are completely unpredictable. They can be so adorable and easy going and laughing uncontrollably one minute, and the next minute, turn that charm off completely.

They will typically smile for you all day long until you put them in front of a camera, then they freeze up like a deer in headlights.

We want to avoid the gritted teeth and bug-eyed forced smiles during our session.

Here are some things you can do:

  1. Send us a message with a few things that your child thinks are funny and send it to us prior to the session. We can add this into our bag of tricks.

  2. Give us a list of icebreakers for your child. Tell us the kinds of shows they watch, music they listen to, friends’ names, favourite story, etc. This will give us something to talk to them about, and will help them forget they’re in front of the camera.

  3. Try out a couple of jokes with them. During the session, we can ask them to tell us a joke and this will typically loosen them up as they tell it to us.

  4. If there is a song that your child loves, load it up to your phone and bring it along with you.

  5. Prepare a bribe (such as a toy, a trip to the zoo, etc.) and show it to them, or remind them of it, during the session.

My youngest child is fourteen years old now and during my journey as a parent I have always been intrigued how quickly my three children have changed in their mannerisms, passions and interests.

At younger ages this may be playing with a particular toy or as they get older it could be learning an instrument. It could be an expression that melts your heart but one day it is gone.

It’s interesting how incredibly valuable photographs that depict personality become. They hold immense value to myself and my wife because besides our memory that is all we have to remember specific traits that  our children had while growing up.

Our children love looking back at these moments together. They get so much enjoyment from them. There is a lot of laughter that is for sure.

Seeing the value of this style of photography I want myself and my photographers to create genuine memories for you and your family to enjoy.

It can be the simplest little thing as an expression when your child does a certain activity, it could be a glance you receive when you give your child a hug.

The best part about photographing this way is that it is very natural and fun, we laugh a lot and in no time you will have way too many fantastic memories to choose from.

Our photography is about giving you memories to look back on and enjoy. Children grow fast and they are always changing what they love to do.

I noticed that my kids would be obsessed with a toy or a role play game and then all of a sudden that would be dropped.

Sometimes that gorgeous mannerism that melted your heart would never be repeated as it was now “silly”. This is when I would find myself seeking photographs as a way to remember and relive moments that I loved.

I also find my now teenage children looking through these memories and enjoying them together, there is often a lot of laughter and it’s incredible how much enjoyment they get from them.

I can  help you to also have photographs to help you relive those cute stages. I will ask you a few easy questions prior to your session and make some notes.

I will then advise you on what to bring to your session. It’s real simple and easy stuff.

This style of photography is fantastic because your child simply does what they love to do, whether that is playing with a toy or anything. They are not posing and I am capturing the wonderful time they are having.

It’s really so important to celebrate these simple precious moments that can easily forgotten.
