Kids portrait session tips

Kids portrait session tips

Photographing kids is fun. Being a big kid helps and we always start a kid’s portrait session by playing with them and getting on their level. We include two styles of kid’s portraiture, a classical directed style and a natural style that captures the unique character of the children we photograph. The parents are often surprised by a certain look that we have captured and at the viewing session they will often laugh or hold back tears during the initial slide show presentation. These reactions are like a big pat on the back for the photographer, it tells us that we have caught the personality and delivered portraits beyond our clients’ expectations. We guarantee that you will treasure these moments and enjoy them for the rest of your life.

  1. Book your session at a time when your kids are fresh and happy. If your child is not looking or feeling 100% on the day of the session just give us a call and we will reschedule it for you.
  2. We ask you to bring along anything that your child is into. It can be footy, dressing up, riding the bike really fast or some other cool stuff that your kid or kids are into. Whatever it is we want to capture it because it will relax them, make them enjoy the session and have fun and let me take great shots that you will love.
  3. We can help you decide at the Portrait Design session whether your portraits will be at one of my selected locations or at the studio.
  4. Parents should dress with comfort in mind, wear your favoutite outfit that you feel great in and that gives you heaps of confidence. Outfit changes are a great idea or perhaps a few accessories to change the look. It is recommended to wear darker plain clothing as it less distracting, writing, logos and crazy patterns all divert the viewers eye away from the subject.  These are guidelines and not rules so please feel free to wear what makes you happy and comfortable.
  5. Kids should have two or three outfit changes with them. This can be their or your favourite outfits. You can often get great natural images while asking a kid to put a pair of funky sunnies on amongst other cool accessories likes beanies and scarves.
